To replace a piece of paper with all details on it then the paper is laminated with plastic which has been in used in 1989.

Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) has introduced new driving license with improved security from 15 July 2013, bilingual Malay and English.

Available from JPJ offices and later extended to Post Offices in November 2013.

It was not confirmed but it has been circulated that this driving license is valid as international driver's license as well.
