PUTRAJAYA, Aug 1 — Malaysian international passports which have been found after being reported lost can no longer be used, and a replacement passport needs to applied for travelling purposes, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) said in a statement today.

KDN had made it mandatory for lost passports to be reported to the police since Feb 27 last year.

According to the ministry, all information concerning the missing passport would be shared in the Interpol database.

“This step was taken to ensure that the passport is not misused by irresponsible parties,” it said.

According to the ministry, Interpol’s Stolen and Lost Travel Document (SLTD) database could be accessed by several countries including Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom.

According to the statement, reusing passports reported missing in countries that have access to the Interpol database would be deemed as travelling with irregular documents.

It added that this could cause various problems for the person travelling with the document.

“With this, the ministry would like to remind all parties to comply with the directive to report the loss of an international passport to the police, and apply a replacement for travelling abroad,” he said. — Bernama
